The University of Puerto Rico 121 Anniversary Concert

  • Orquesta Sinfónica de Puerto Rico | Teatro UPR-RP Plaza 6 San Juan, San Juan, 00926 Puerto Rico (map)

The University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras celebrates its 121st anniversary with a special concert by the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra. This commemorative event will occur on March 21, 2024, at 7 pm. In honor of International Women's Month and recognizing the importance of highlighting female talent on stage, we are thrilled to have the participation of Yabetza Vivas Irizarry as a guest conductor in the performance of the piece titled "Orchestral Suite of ¿Y los Pasteles? Jíbaro Opera in 2 Acts" by the distinguished Puerto Rican composer Johanny Navarro. Subsequently, the music director, Maximiano Valdés, will lead the orchestra in performing the Concerto in D minor for violin and orchestra, Op. 47 by Jean Sibelius, performed by concertmaster Omar Velázquez, and the Symphony No. 3 in F major, Op. 90 by Johannes Brahms. This concert promises to be a unique experience that celebrates the rich history of the UPR in Río Piedras and the talent and creativity of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, entrance is free of charge for all attendees.
